"Two things are obvious: we must end the war and Mr. Bush to prevent further damage to cause"
Friends, we have made it! We did it! The impossible has occurred: the majority of Americans has clearly and forcefully removed from the House of Representatives to the control of the party of Bush. And, at some point of the day today, we could see the same miracle in the Senate. Whatever the result, the American people has made two things obvious: to end the war and to prevent Mr. Bush to cause further damage to this country we love. In that served the elections. A nothing. Only at this. It 's a message that has rocked the entire Washington - and a note of hope in this troubled planet. Now the real work begins. As long as we are not breathing down the necks of these Democrats to do it downward, will do what they have always done: casino. A big mess. They helped Bush start this war. It should now run for cover.
But let's take a day to rejoice and to celebrate a rare victory for us - we do not believe in deliberate invasions of other countries. Today is your day, my friends. You have worked hard to get there. Do not tell you what pride I try to consider them part of that vast majority who now belong. Thanks for all the time you have devoted to this crucial week for voting. Some of you have worked on this goal by the impressive demonstrations of February 2003, when we tried to stop the war before it began. Only 10-20 percent of the country agreed with us then. Remember how we were alone? Someone even whistled! Now, 60 percent is on our side. They are us and we are them. What a strange, confident and pleasant feeling. A woman, for the first time in our history, will be chairman of the House. The attempt to ban abortion in the conservative state of South Dakota have been prevented. Have passed laws to increase the minimum wage. The Democrats were elected to fill the seats of Tom DeLay and Mark Foley. John Conyers Jr. of Detroit will become chairman of the Judicial Committee of the Chamber. The Democratic governor of Michigan has beaten the CEO of Amway. The small town near where I live in Michigan has voted Democratic for the first time since ... forever. And we make sure that Congress is finally listening to the majority.
If today you want to do something, send an email or letter to your senators and your congressmen (http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/) and tell them in no uncertain terms, that mean that this election: end the war and do not let Bush get away with more of his brilliant ideas.
Congratulations, again! Now we are going to put on your toes because the Democrats do the work for which they have voted.
Yours, in victory (for once!)
Michael Moore
